Sleepy Hollow Sunset Tour

This is a great venue for beginning and skilled paddlers to experience the Hudson River. On this tour we paddle south, past “Kidd Rock”, a large rock outcropping that was, according to legend, used by the infamous pirate Captain Kidd for illegal trading activities with local landowner Frederick Philipse. The trip continues past the historic 1883 Tarrytown Lighthouse, which is on the National Register of Historic Places and once protected steamships from the shoals along the eastern shore of the river. We will then head towards the Tappan Zee Bridge, a three-mile long cantilever style span that links Westchester and Rockland Counties. On a clear day, the Manhattan skyline is visible from this area of the river. This is our most popular tour and a fantastic way to get into kayaking. If the tide allows we may be able to paddle up the Pocantico River to see the old mill at Philipsburg Manor from a whole different perspective.

KAYAK FUNdamentals (Recreational Lesson)

This is the perfect lesson for someone that is looking to begin recreational or flat water kayaking. The lesson takes place on a lake, which allows for calm and comfortable paddling conditions. This is a great experience for a new or first time kayaker interested in building their paddling skills. If you are thinking about purchasing a recreational kayak this lesson will assist you in making that decision and will allow you to try to out both sit on top and sit inside kayaks. If you have recently purchased a recreational kayak this lesson will get you started off on the right foot. Our Guides will talk about on-the-water safety, decision-making, essential safety gear, basic kayaking safety, types of kayaking, basic paddling equipment, kayak parts, and kayak terminology. The skills covered during this lesson will include fitting a boat, lifting a boat, launching and landing, forward strokes, stopping, reverse strokes, turning with forward stroke, and turning with the reverse stroke.

Stand Up Paddleboarding- Croton Point PM InstrucTour

The Instruc-Tour is geared toward first timers and beginners that want to get on the water and have a blast! This program will start you off with the basics of stand up paddling. There is an on-land introduction/ safety talk, and then the group hits the water for some on-water instruction. We start in a relatively protected bay area so that everyone has an opportunity to get their “sea legs”. After folks are feeling comfortable on their boards we head out for paddle. Our Instructors will talk about on-the-water safety, decision-making, essential safety gear, selecting the appropriate size and type of board, paddle selection, and basic accessories. The skills covered during this lesson include standing up on a board for the first time, lifting and carrying a paddleboard, launching and landing, paddleboard stance, the forward stroke, basic turning strokes, and stopping. No experience is necessary for this lesson but the conditions of the day (wind, waves, etc.), will determine the difficulty level.

Sea Kayak Essentials (Touring Lesson)

An introductory course meant for the first time or novice paddler interested in building a foundation of skills and knowledge about sea kayaking or kayak touring. The lesson takes place on the Hudson River and is ideally suited for the person looking to safely paddle on larger bodies of water like the Hudson River or Long Island Sound. Participants will have the opportunity to work with instructors to practice and refine their skills. Our Guides will talk about on the water safety, decision-making, essential safety gear, basic touring kayak safety, rules of the road, crossings, basic equipment, kayak parts and terminology. The skills covered during this lesson will include, lifting a boat, launching and landing, fitting a boat to you, decking a boat, forward strokes, stopping, reverse strokes, turning with forward stroke, and turning with the reverse stroke, the low brace and the high brace. Under the close supervision of instructors, participants will have the optional opportunity to confront a new paddlers worst fear, tipping over. There will also be opportunities to participant in and observe some basic self-rescue and assisted rescue techniques like the TX rescue and paddle float rescue.

Kayak Eskimo Rolling

Kayak Eskimo Rolling
Overcome the urge to wet exit in the event of a capsize, add to your kayak skills set and learn to roll your kayak in a controlled setting. A bomb-proof roll is a fundamental skill for the whitewater boater and a great confidence booster for the sea kayaker encountering rough water conditions. 

Following the skill building approach, each participant will learn and practice proper wet exit techniques. 

Types of rolls introduced will include the C-to-C and Sweep. The elements of each roll will be introduced and practiced in a progressive approach: the setup (getting into position to begin the roll); the support phase (using a paddle, hands or float for support on the water) and; the hip snap (bringing the boat underneath you to sit upright and completing the roll).
